One student has always had a hard time participating at a performance, this time during the performance at the County Fair he was in the front row smiling and performing instead of hiding.
I appreciate what I Can Do That has to offer: It shows me strengths my students have and it shows me areas I can help them improve. |

Artist: Lynda King - Ceramics
Our students created a wonderful collection of art using clay, porcelain, plaster of paris, and wood, which are unusual in today’s academically driven classrooms, and something that many students had never worked with before. The children strengthened finger and hand eye coordination through working with these materials, and learned art vocabulary, (such as, what slip is). They enjoyed exploring and creating with these sensory-motor mediums, used a wide variety of art tools, and learned how to follow multi-step directions. Every piece of art was unique, and students were able to take their families to an art show at school. They proudly showed off their creations, to the delight of their parents who many said that they “would save of them forever”!
Our artist, Lynda King, was talented, especially in clay art forms, organized, and really knew how to work with young children. She planned age appropriate, (every piece was a success), well-executed art experiences, the children learned from and had fun with. I’m sure that they will fondly remember Ms. Lynda, and the great art projects they did this year in preschool for years to come.
We hope to be a part of I Can Do That/Very Special Arts Program next year and have Lynda King return to our preschool full-inclusion program. It has been a valuable and special experience, and the students benefited 100% from being a part of it!
I am very thankful for the Very Special Arts Program.
